If you are using an i3 fingerprint scanner and receive the 'Device unavailable' error message, ensure that you have installed the required software as described in the Getting Started article. This should include the 32-bit Device Service and the i3 Drivers.

If the fingerprint scanner is not working correctly, contact i3 support (https://idintl.com/).

Restart the Device Service

Try restarting the Device Service as detailed in Unable to communicate with Device Service.

Path Environment Variable

If the fingerprint scanner still cannot be found, ensure that the path to the i3 drivers has been set in the Path environment variable.

If you are using Windows 10/11, click the search box near the Start button, and type "environment variables". Then, click or tap the search result named 'Edit the system environment variables'.

Click the 'Environment Variables...' button at the bottom of the System Properties window that opens.

Click Path in the bottom window under System variables, and then click Edit.

Ensure that 'C:\Program Files (x86)\i3 Drivers for Device Service\Bin' is in the displayed list. If it is not, click New and add it to the list.

Click OK to close each of the windows. If you added the i3 drivers to the list, restart the Device Service as detailed in Unable to communicate with Device Service.

If the fingerprint scanner is still not found, please submit a support ticket and include the Device Service log files. These files are located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Device Service. Please include all *.log files in your support request ticket.
